Affordable Website Design: What It Really Costs in 2026
“Affordable website” means four different products. Mixing them up is how quotes jump from $200 to $8,000.
The four routes
- DIY builder. $15–$40 a month. You do the design, copy, and photos. Cheap in cash, expensive in evenings.
- Freelance. A few hundred to a few thousand. Quality varies. Ask who updates it in six months.
- Done-for-you platforms. A setup fee or a higher monthly, and someone else handles the first version. Volnyn sits here: a live site without an agency retainer.
- Agency. Strategy, brand, custom build. Right for a funded company. Overkill for a plumber who needs a phone number and five photos.
Hidden extras
Domain, business email, stock photos, extra page revisions, ecommerce fees, and “we need to rebuild it on Webflow.” Get those in writing. A cheap homepage with $150/hour change requests is not cheap.
How to judge a quote
Ask what you can edit yourself, what happens if you leave, and how long until the site is on your domain. If the answer is vague, the cheap quote will grow. Affordable is a site that is live, editable, and paid for in a number you can explain to yourself.
