Traffic But No Sales? Here Is How to Find the Leak

Traffic with no sales is a better problem than no traffic, because it's a fixable one. You have visitors; something between arriving and paying is losing them. Work through it in order.

The four usual suspects

  • The wrong visitors. Traffic from a source that was never going to buy. Check where it's coming from before you redesign anything.
  • Speed. If the page takes too long on a phone on mobile data, nothing else you fix matters.
  • Missing information. Price, delivery time, sizes, returns. Every unanswered question is an exit.
  • An unclear next step. If a visitor has to work out what to do, they'll do nothing.

Stop guessing and watch

Volnyn's site analytics give you three layers: who's on the site live and where they came from, a heatmap of every click page by page, and anonymised session replays. The replays are the ones that change your mind — you watch a real visitor scroll, hesitate and leave, and the problem is usually obvious within three sessions.

Change one thing at a time

Fix the single clearest problem, wait a week, look again. Changing five things at once means you learn nothing from the result.
