How to Write Website Copy That Actually Sells
Most website copy fails in the first sentence, and it always fails the same way: it talks about the company instead of the visitor.
The four questions in a visitor's head
- What is this?
- Is it for me?
- Why you and not the other tab I have open?
- What do I do next?
Answer those four, in that order, and you have a working home page. Everything else is decoration.
Sentences to delete today
- "Welcome to our website." — the visitor knows where they are.
- "We are a leading provider of quality solutions." — this describes every company that has ever existed.
- "Contact us for more information." — tell them what happens when they do.
Write badly first, then fix it
Get the honest version down — the way you'd explain it to a friend in a message — then tighten it. In Volnyn's AI Docs you can highlight any paragraph and tell the AI to rewrite, shorten, expand or translate it, and the edit happens in the document rather than in a chat window you have to copy back from.
