How to Use AI to Write Blog Posts That Rank and Get Read

AI writing tools have made it easy to publish a lot of content. That's exactly why most of it doesn't rank: search engines are looking for pages that are genuinely helpful, written from real experience, and better than what already exists. AI can help you get there much faster — if you use it as an assistant, not a replacement.

Step 1: Pick a topic people actually search for

  • Start with questions your customers ask you.
  • Type them into Google and note the "People also ask" questions and suggested searches.
  • Prefer specific topics: "how much does a kitchen renovation cost in Lahore" beats "kitchen renovation".

Ask AI for help: "List 30 questions homeowners ask before hiring a kitchen fitter, grouped by stage of the decision."

Step 2: Study what already ranks

Read the top five results for your topic. Note what they cover, what they miss and what format they use. Your post needs to be more useful — more specific, more current, clearer, or written from real experience they lack.

Step 3: Build the outline with AI

"Create a detailed outline for an article titled 'How Much Does a Kitchen Renovation Cost in Lahore in 2026?'. The reader is a homeowner planning a renovation. Include cost ranges by size, what drives the price, hidden costs, ways to save, and an FAQ. Use H2 and H3 headings."

Then edit the outline yourself: reorder sections, add what only you know, remove fluff.

Step 4: Add what AI can't

This is the step that makes a post rank and convert. Add:

  • Real numbers from your own jobs or sales.
  • Examples and stories from customers (anonymised if needed).
  • Your opinion — what you'd actually recommend and why.
  • Photos of real work, or clear illustrations.
  • Local detail — prices, rules, suppliers and seasons where you work.

Step 5: Draft section by section

Drafting one section at a time gives better results than asking for the whole article at once. Give AI your notes for each section and ask it to write in a specific voice: "plain English, friendly, short paragraphs, no hype".

Step 6: Edit hard

  • Delete generic introductions — get to the point in the first two sentences.
  • Check every fact, number and claim.
  • Cut repeated ideas; AI tends to say the same thing three ways.
  • Read it aloud. If it doesn't sound like you, rewrite it.

Step 7: Get the on-page basics right

ElementWhat to do
TitleInclude the main phrase, under 60 characters
Meta descriptionA clear 1–2 sentence summary, about 150 characters
HeadingsOne H1, logical H2s and H3s
ImagesCompressed, with descriptive alt text
Internal linksLink to related posts and your service or product pages
URLShort and readable: /kitchen-renovation-cost-lahore

Step 8: Publish, promote and update

  • Share it in your newsletter and on social media.
  • Turn sections into short posts and videos.
  • Revisit it every six to twelve months and update prices, dates and examples.

What to avoid

  • Publishing raw AI output without editing.
  • Mass-producing hundreds of thin pages.
  • Keyword stuffing.
  • Covering topics you have no real knowledge of.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google penalise AI content?

Google's stated focus is on helpfulness and quality, not on how content was produced. Low-value content made at scale to manipulate rankings is the problem, whoever writes it.

How long should a blog post be?

As long as it needs to fully answer the question. For most guides that's 1,000–2,000 words.
