Connect your own domain
Your WordPress site starts at
your-site.wp.volnyn.site. You can move it to a domain you own, such assweetcrumb.com, with HTTPS set up for you.
How it works
- Add your domain to the site in Volnyn.
- Point the domain at the WordPress server by adding an A record at your domain provider, using the IP address Volnyn shows you.
- Wait for DNS. Volnyn checks every couple of minutes. As soon as your domain points to the right place, WordPress is told its new address and an HTTPS certificate is issued automatically.
Your domain moves through these states:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Added, waiting for your DNS to point at the WordPress server. |
| Mapped | DNS is correct; WordPress has switched to your domain and the certificate is being issued. |
| Active | Your site answers on https://yourdomain.com. |
| Failed | Something went wrong — check the A record and try again. |
A domain is only marked Active once https://yourdomain.com actually loads, not just when the setup has been written.
Good to know
- DNS changes usually take a few minutes, but can take up to 48 hours with some providers.
- The
.wp.volnyn.siteaddress keeps working, so links you already shared are not broken. - wp-admin moves with your site and keeps working on the new domain.
- Point the domain at the WordPress server IP shown for this site — it is different from the address used by standard Volnyn websites.
