Spreadsheets
Describe the workbook you need and Volnyn builds it — sheets, columns and starter rows. Open it in a full spreadsheet editor, import your own file, and download it as Excel or CSV.
Open chat (/user/chat) and click Spreadsheet under the composer, or go straight to /user/chat?mode=spreadsheet.
Make a spreadsheet
- Click Spreadsheet under the composer.
- Describe what the workbook is for and, if you know them, the sheets, the columns and roughly how many rows.
- Press Enter.
If your message already describes the contents — columns, sheets, a row count, or a pasted spec — Volnyn builds right away. It tells you what the workbook is for, which sheets it has and which columns you fill in, then builds it.
Otherwise it asks one question, with answers you can tap. Your next message always builds.
In Spreadsheet mode the start screen also offers examples to start from, such as Personal Finance, Sales Performance, Marketing Campaigns and Real Estate Portfolio.
A status bar above the composer shows Building the spreadsheet and turns green when it's done. A file card is added to the chat, named like Monthly_Budget.xlsx, with its size ("Spreadsheet · 12 rows × 5 columns").
Each sheet can have up to 26 columns and up to 200 rows of data.
Change it by asking
Stay in the same chat and say what to change — "add a column for VAT", "add a sheet with a monthly summary". Follow-ups edit the same workbook instead of making a new one.
View and download from chat
Click the file card to open a viewer with the sheet tabs, plus:
- Download — the
.xlsxfile. - Open in editor — the full spreadsheet editor.
The spreadsheet editor
The editor opens at /user/spreadsheet/edit/<id>. It works like a desktop spreadsheet: click a cell and type, use formulas, and switch sheets along the bottom.
At the top:
- Title — click to rename.
- Saved / Not saved — changes save automatically a moment after you stop typing, and when you leave the page.
- Open file — import a file (see below).
- Download ▾ — export (see below).
- Fullscreen.
The ribbon
| Tab | What's there |
|---|---|
| Home | Undo and redo; paste, cut and copy; font, size, bold, italic, underline, borders and colours; alignment, wrap and merge; number formats (percent, currency, thousands separator, decimals); conditional formatting and table styles; insert and delete rows, columns and sheets; AutoSum; clear; sort and filter; find and replace. |
| Insert | Table, picture, image in a cell, link, note, comment, new sheet. |
| Formulas | AutoSum and quick-insert lists for logical, lookup, text, date and statistical functions — IF, XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, COUNTIF, TODAY and more. Name a range. |
| Data | Sort A → Z and Z → A, custom sort, filter, data validation, text to columns, conditional formatting, open file. |
| View | Freeze panes, gridlines, zoom (50%–200%), dark mode, fullscreen. |
The status bar shows the Average, Sum and Count of the selected cells.
Charts, pivot tables and printing aren't available in the editor.
The editor saves your values, sheet names and sheets. Formatting you apply in the editor — colours, bold, borders — isn't kept after you leave.
Import a file
Click Open file and choose an .xlsx, .xls or .csv file. It replaces the current workbook, and the file name becomes the title.
Export
Open Download ▾:
| Option | What you get |
|---|---|
| Excel (.xlsx) — all sheets | The whole workbook. |
| CSV — this sheet | Only the sheet you're looking at. |
The downloaded .xlsx is formatted for you: a title block with summary figures calculated by live formulas, a styled and frozen header row with filters, banded rows, and bold totals. Summary-type sheets (for example "Summary" or "Overview") also get a bar chart.
Your spreadsheets library
All your workbooks are listed on the Spreadsheet page (/user/spreadsheet). Search with Search spreadsheets..., or click New Spreadsheet to start one in chat. Hover a workbook to:
- Open it in chat.
- Edit its name (up to 150 characters).
- Delete it. Deleted spreadsheets are moved to trash.
Spreadsheets also appear in Space under Spreadsheets.
Tips
- List the columns you want. "Date, client, amount, status, notes" skips the question and gets you exactly that.
- Ask for a summary sheet if you want the chart in the Excel download.
- Import, then ask. Bring in your own CSV with Open file, then keep working on it.
- Download before heavy formatting. Formatting applied in the editor isn't saved, so do final styling in Excel or Google Sheets.
FAQ
Can I use formulas? Yes, in the editor. The Excel download also includes formula-driven summary figures.
Why did my colours and bold text disappear? The editor stores values and sheets, not cell formatting.
Can I open it in Google Sheets?
Download the .xlsx and import it into Google Sheets.
How many rows can Volnyn generate? Up to 200 rows of data per sheet when it builds the workbook. You can add more yourself in the editor.
Do spreadsheets need a paid plan? On the standard setup, yes. Without one, Volnyn opens the plans sheet.
