Scheduled tasks

A scheduled task is a prompt Volnyn runs for you on a timetable — a morning news briefing, a weekly competitor check, a monthly report. Each run happens in its own chat, and the result is saved as a document you can download.

You set the prompt and the cadence once. Volnyn runs it at that time, with the same tools as ordinary chat — web search, your connected apps, your Brain — and tells you when it's done.

Open Scheduled in the left sidebar, or go to /user/scheduled.

The Scheduled page

The top of the page shows your totals: Schedules, Active, Runs, and the Next run. Below that are three tabs:

With no tasks yet, the page offers three starting ideas — monitoring a topic or competitor, a daily news briefing, and turning a manual process into a pipeline. Clicking one opens chat with that request filled in.

Create a scheduled task

From the Scheduled page

  1. Click New schedule (or Create your scheduled task on an empty page).
  2. Fill in the dialog:
Field What to enter
Title A short name, such as "Summary of unread mail". Up to 200 characters.
Schedule Once, Hourly, Daily, Weekly or Monthly, plus a time. Once also asks for a date.
Set expiration date Optional. The task stops running after this date.
Prompt What Volnyn should do each time, written as you would in chat. Up to 8,000 characters.
Skip confirmations When on, the task can send, publish or post without waiting for your approval.
  1. Open Advanced settings to choose the Day of week (for weekly tasks), the Day of month (1–28, for monthly tasks), or a project to Run inside. A task run inside a project follows that project's custom instructions and files its chats there.
  2. Click Save.

Times use your browser's time zone. An Hourly task runs at the minute you chose, every hour.

From chat

Just ask: "Every weekday at 8am, give me the top five tech headlines." The assistant sets up the task and shows a Schedule this? card with the details. Click Confirm schedule to create it.

Once created, a card in the chat shows the frequency and the next run, with a link to View on the Scheduled calendar.

From chat you can also ask for a task that repeats every so many minutes. Those tasks can be paused, run or deleted from the Scheduled page, but to change their timing, ask in chat.

What happens when a task runs

  1. Volnyn starts a new chat named after the task.
  2. It sends your prompt and works through it exactly as it would if you'd typed it — searching, using connected apps, following project instructions.
  3. The answer is saved as a dated document, headed with the date and time of the run. A card under the reply lets you Download PDF, and the document is also listed in Space under Scheduled.
  4. You get a notification.

A Once task switches itself off after it runs. If a run hits a temporary problem, Volnyn tries again a few minutes later, up to three times.

Open any run's chat to see the Scheduled side panel: an Active switch, the repeat and next run, whether confirmations are skipped, and the last 20 Past runs. Its ⋯ menu has Run now, Manage schedules and Delete task.

Notifications

  • The bell in the sidebar shows new runs. Click one to open that run's chat. Clear all empties the list.
  • If email notifications are on for your account, each successful run sends "Your scheduled task ran: …". A run that couldn't complete sends "Scheduled task couldn't complete: …" when failure alerts are on.

Manage your tasks

On the Tasks tab, each card shows the repeat, the next run and how many times it has run.

Action How
Pause / Resume The switch on the card. Resuming works out the next run from now.
Run now ⋯ → Run now. Runs the task straight away and opens the new chat.
Edit ⋯ → Edit. Opens the same dialog as creating.
Delete ⋯ → Delete. The task stops running and leaves your calendar. This cannot be undone.

Credits

Scheduled runs use credits like other automations. A run that fails isn't charged. If your credits run out, the task pauses itself and tells you so — top up and switch it back on.

Tips

  • Write the prompt for a stranger. The task runs without you there to clarify, so include everything: sources, format, length, what to leave out.
  • Ask for a fixed format. "Five bullets, one line each, with a link" makes daily results easy to compare.
  • Test with Run now before trusting a schedule.
  • Leave Skip confirmations off for anything that sends email or posts publicly, until you trust the output.
  • Use a project to give related tasks shared instructions.

FAQ

Does my computer need to be on? No. Tasks run on Volnyn's servers.

Which time zone is used? Your browser's time zone when you created or last saved the task.

Why can't I pick the 31st for a monthly task? Monthly tasks can run on days 1 to 28, so they run every month, including February.

Where do the results go? Into a new chat for each run, and as a document in Space → Scheduled that you can download as a PDF.

Is there a limit on how many tasks I can have? There's no fixed number. Each run uses credits, so keep an eye on your balance.

Do scheduled tasks need a paid plan? On the standard setup, creating one from chat does.
