Chat overview

Chat is where most work in Volnyn starts. You type what you want in one box, and the same conversation can answer a question, build a site, make a deck, generate an image or run a task on the web.

Chat is the home screen of your dashboard. Signing in lands you here, and New task in the left sidebar always brings you back to a fresh conversation.

Open it from Dashboard → New task, or go to /user/chat. Every conversation gets its own address, /user/c/<id>, so you can bookmark it or come back to it later.

The screen at a glance

Sending a message

1. Click into the box at the bottom and type. Messages can be up to 8,000 characters.
2. Press Enter to send. Use Shift + Enter for a new line.
3. The reply streams in. Click the square stop button to cut it off.

While a reply is running you can keep typing. See The prompt queue below.

On a new chat, a microphone sits beside the send button. Click it, speak, and your voice note is transcribed into the box. While recording you get a live waveform and a timer, plus three buttons: ✕ discards the recording, ✓ keeps it as text for you to edit, and ↑ keeps it and sends it straight away.

As you type, Volnyn may suggest ways to finish your sentence. Pick one or keep typing.

Modes

In plain Chat mode the assistant answers, and it can reach for its tools — web search, your connected apps, your Brain — when a question needs them. You don't need to switch modes for that.

Switch to a mode when you know what you want made:

When a mode is on, its name shows as a tag inside the composer. Click the × on the tag to go back to plain Chat.

You can also open chat straight into a mode with a link such as /user/chat?mode=presentation.

The + menu

Click + at the left of the composer.

Attachments are one per message. They are not held in the prompt queue — send the message with the attachment on its own.

Connectors

The squares button next to + lists the apps you can connect — Gmail, Google Drive, Slack, GitHub, Notion, HubSpot, Shopify and many more — with Connect beside each one that isn't connected yet. Once an app is connected, just ask for what you want ("summarise my unread Gmail", "list my open GitHub pull requests") and the assistant uses it.

When the assistant is about to do something that can't be taken back — send an email, post a reply, place an order — it stops and shows a card with a Confirm button. Nothing happens until you click it.

Volnyn Desktop

The Volnyn Desktop chip in the composer answers "where does this task run?".

• Bring Volnyn to your computer lets the assistant work in your own browser, signed in as you — useful for sites that need your login. Get Volnyn Desktop downloads the desktop app on Windows and opens its listing on a Mac. On other systems it points you to the Volnyn Chrome extension, and once that is installed the button changes to Connect this computer, then Use this computer.
• Cloud computer (when available) gives the assistant a workspace of its own that keeps running while you're away.

A green dot on the chip means your next task runs in your own browser.

The model picker

The model name in the header opens the picker.

Choosing Pro or Max opens the plans sheet.

The prompt queue

You don't have to wait for a reply to finish before typing the next thing.

1. While the assistant is working, type your next message and press Enter.
2. It appears in a queue above the composer, with the running prompt at the top and a Stop button beside it.
3. When the current reply finishes, the next queued prompt sends by itself. Prompts run one at a time, in order.

Remove a queued prompt with the × on its row before it starts. The queue belongs to its conversation and survives a page refresh in the same browser.

Replies and follow-ups

Hover a reply to see its actions:

• Copy copies the reply text.
• Regenerate asks for the reply again.
• How was this result? Rate it from one to five stars.

Hover one of your own messages to see Copy and Branch. Branch from here copies the conversation up to that message into a new chat called "… (branch)", so you can try a different direction without losing the original.

After a build finishes, Volnyn often offers a few next steps just above the composer — for example "Add a contact form" on a website. Click one to send it.

Projects

A project is a folder for related chats, with optional custom instructions that apply to every chat inside it.

To create a project

1. In the left sidebar, click New project under Projects.
2. Give it a name and, optionally, instructions — for example "Keep responses concise and professional" or "Never publish without approval".
3. Save. The project opens at /user/projects/<id>, showing its chats and a composer that starts new chats inside it.

To move a chat into a project, open the chat's ⋮ menu and choose Move to project, then pick a project or New project….

Deleting a project does not delete its chats. They move back to your ordinary history.

Chat history

Your conversations are listed in the left sidebar, newest first. Search them with Search chats….

Each chat's ⋮ menu (in the sidebar, or in the header when the chat is open) has:

To delete every conversation at once, open your account menu → Settings → Data controls → Clear chat history → Clear all. This cannot be undone.

Sharing a chat

1. Open the chat and click Share in the header.
2. Choose Public access (anyone with the link can view) instead of Only me.
3. Click Share now, then Copy the link, or send it straight to X, LinkedIn or WhatsApp.

Shared links look like https://volnyn.com/s/<code>. They are read-only and don't need a Volnyn account, and they are separate from your private chat address. To stop sharing, open Share again, choose Only me and click Make private. The link stops working straight away.

The Collaborate tab is not available yet. Working in one chat together is on the way; for now, share a link.

Files in this task

The Files in this task button in the header lists everything the conversation made or received: generated images and video, documents, decks, sites, and your uploads. Filter with All, Documents, Images and Media.

Credits and usage

Your credit balance is in the header. Click it to see:

• Credits — your current balance, or Unlimited.
• Daily refresh credits — the allowance that refreshes every day at 00:00.
• View usage — opens Settings → Usage, with your full usage and billing.
• Upgrade — shown on accounts that can move to a paid plan.

On the standard setup, ordinary chat is free, while building and generating — websites, games, slides, spreadsheets, images, video, audio, research and the live browser — needs a paid plan. If you try one of those without a plan, Volnyn opens the plans sheet instead of starting the job.

Tips

• Say what you want made, not how. "A one-page site for my bakery in Lahore with a menu and opening hours" beats a list of technical instructions.
• Stay in one chat for one piece of work. A website chat keeps editing the same site, and a deck chat keeps the same deck. Start a new chat for a new project.
• Use projects for standing instructions instead of repeating "use our brand voice" in every message.
• Branch before a big change if you might want to go back.

FAQ

Can I use chat without signing in? You can open /user/chat and type while signed out, but nothing is saved. Sign in to keep your history, and to build or generate anything.

Where did my chat go? Check Archived at the bottom of the chat list, and your projects. Deleted chats can't be restored from the app.

Does a shared link update when I keep chatting? Yes. The link always shows the conversation as it currently stands, until you make the chat private again.

Can I attach a PDF or a document? In plain chat, the + menu takes images. To make documents searchable by the assistant, add them to Brain. For your own uploads in image and video work, see Space and recents.

Why did a mode button open the plans sheet? That mode needs a paid plan. See Credits and usage.

Can I pick which AI model answers? Volnyn Lite is the default. Volnyn Pro and Volnyn Max are listed in the model picker and open the plans sheet.
