Connect a custom domain

Put your published Volnyn site on an address you own — yourbrand.com instead of the free Volnyn subdomain. DNS and HTTPS are set up for you.

You need a domain you have already bought (GoDaddy, Namecheap, BigRock — any registrar). Volnyn does not need to be your registrar.

Before you start

Publish the site first. A custom domain points at a live site, so get it working on its free Volnyn subdomain before connecting your own address — see Publish your Volnyn site.

Step 1 — Add the domain

Open Custom Domain at /user/site/ai-domain, under Domains and URLs in the site sidebar.

Enter the domain on its own — no http://, no trailing slash:

  • mysite.com ✅
  • shop.mysite.com ✅

Step 2 — Point your DNS at Volnyn

The page shows you the exact values to use. There are two ways to do it.

Log in to the registrar where you bought the domain, find Name Servers in the domain's settings, delete what is there, and enter the two name servers shown on the page (ns1. and ns2. on the Volnyn base domain).

This is the simplest route because everything after it — DNS records, SSL — is handled for you.

Alternative: keep your name servers, add A records

If you need to keep your current DNS provider (you already run email or other subdomains there), open the Advanced section on the page instead and add two A records pointing at the server IP shown there:

Type Host / Name Value
A @ the IP shown on the page
A www the IP shown on the page

@ means the domain itself. Always copy the IP from the page rather than from anywhere else — it is read from server settings and can change.

Step 3 — Wait for propagation

DNS changes are not instant. Typically 1 to 6 hours, occasionally up to 48. Nothing is broken during this window; the internet is still learning the new answer.

Step 4 — Verify

Come back to the page and click Verify Domain.

If it tells you DNS is not pointing here yet, the change simply has not propagated. Wait longer and click Verify again — there is no limit on retries and nothing is lost by trying early.

Step 5 — HTTPS

Once verification passes, an SSL certificate is issued automatically. This usually finishes within a few minutes. Refresh the page to watch the status move along:

Status Meaning
Pending verification DNS has not been confirmed yet. Click Verify.
Verified · provisioning SSL DNS is correct; the certificate is being issued.
Live Done. The site answers on https://yourdomain.com.
SSL failed Verification passed but the certificate could not be issued. Check that both @ and www resolve, then verify again.

Wait for Live before expecting HTTPS to work — a browser visiting too early will warn about the certificate.

Good to know

  • A domain can be attached to one site at a time.
  • Custom domains apply to AI-built sites from this page.
  • Once the domain is live, it takes priority over the free subdomain in your site's "live URL".
  • Removing the domain from this page releases it so you can attach it elsewhere.
