Languages and SEO
Publish your template site in several languages, translate its fixed text, and write the meta keywords and descriptions search engines show — by hand or with AI in one click.
Two settings decide who can find and read your site: the languages it speaks and the SEO information search engines read. This page covers both for template sites.
For AI-built sites, use the SEO auditor at /user/site/seo instead — see Publish your Volnyn site.
Where to find it

Languages
Every site starts with English. Add more languages to offer your content to visitors in their own language. Visitors switch languages on your site with the language selector.
How languages work
Each language has its own copy of your content. When you add a language, you then add your menus, pages, blog posts, items, and section text in that language. Most dashboard pages have a language picker, or accept a ?language= code in the address, for this reason.
Each language also has keywords — the fixed words your theme uses, such as "Read more," "Add to cart," or "Contact us." You translate these once per language.
Add a language
- Open Language Management (
/user/languages). - Click Add Language.
- Enter:
- Name — for example "Français."
- Code — the language code, for example
fr. Each code can only be used once. - Direction — Left to Right (LTR) or Right to Left (RTL) for languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, or Urdu.
- Click Submit.
The new language starts with a copy of your default language's keywords, ready for you to translate.
Your plan sets how many extra languages you can add. When you reach the limit, Volnyn tells you how many your plan allows.
Translate your site's fixed text
- In Language Management, click Edit Keyword on the language.
- Translate each keyword into that language.
- Click Update.
Default languages
There are two separate defaults:
| Default | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Default in Website | The language visitors see first on your site. Click Make Default. |
| Dashboard language | The language your dashboard pages open in. Set it under Dashboard Language in General Settings (/user/general-settings). |
Edit or delete a language
- Click Edit to change a language's name, code, or direction.
- Click Delete to remove a language. You can't delete your website's default language.
Deleting a language deletes everything written in it — its blog posts, pages, items, testimonials, courses, and other content in that language. This can't be undone. Make sure you no longer need that content first.
SEO information
SEO information is the meta keywords and meta description for each main page of your site. Search engines show the description under your page title in results, so a good one brings in more clicks.
Write SEO by hand
- Open SEO Information (
/user/basic_settings/seo?language=en). - For each page, fill in:
- Meta Keywords — a comma-separated list of search terms.
- Meta Description — one or two sentences describing the page.
- Click Update.
Pages include Home, Blog, Services, Portfolios, Jobs, Team, FAQ, Contact, Shop, Item Details, Cart, Checkout, Login, and Signup. If your plan includes Hotel Booking or Course Management, you also get fields for the Rooms, Room Details, Courses, and Course Details pages.
Write SEO for each language separately — switch the language at the top of the page.
Generate SEO with AI
Let AI fill every field in one go:
- On the SEO Information page, find AI SEO Generator.
- Enter:
- Business Name — for example "Sweet Crumb Bakery."
- Industry — for example "Artisan bakery."
- Business Info — at least a sentence about your services, audience, what makes you different, and where you are.
- Tone — Professional, Friendly, or Premium.
- Click Generate SEO For All Fields.
Volnyn fills in 8 to 12 keywords and a 140 to 155 character description for every page. Nothing is saved yet — review the fields, adjust anything that isn't right, and click Update.
Other places to set SEO

The Website Title shown in browser tabs and search results. |
| Custom pages | Meta keywords and description per page. See Pages, menus and sections. |
| Blog posts | Title tag, meta description, URL slug, and social sharing per post. See Blog. |
| Items, rooms, courses, causes, services, portfolios, jobs | Each has its own meta keywords and description. |
| Plugins | Google Analytics and the Facebook Pixel. See Plugins. |
Tips
- Write a unique meta description for each page. Don't copy the same one everywhere.
- Put your most important words — what you do and where — at the start of the description.
- Keep descriptions under about 155 characters so search engines don't cut them off.
- Add a language only when you're ready to translate the content. A half-translated site feels unfinished.
FAQ
Does adding a language translate my content automatically? No. You add or translate content in each language yourself. The new language starts with a copy of the default keywords so you have something to translate from.
Why do I see English words on my French site? Those are untranslated keywords. Open Edit Keyword on the French language and translate them.
How long until Google shows my new description? Search engines update on their own schedule, usually within days to a few weeks.
Does the AI SEO generator cost anything? It uses your plan's AI. The fields are only saved when you click Update.
What's the difference between this and the SEO page for AI sites?
This page sets meta tags for template sites. AI-built sites use the SEO auditor at /user/site/seo, which checks a live site and suggests fixes.
